What happens to your information.

Acupuncture means keeping clinical records, which includes information about your health. This explains what is collected, why, who sees it and how long it is kept.

Last updated August 2026.

Who is responsible for your information

Elizabeth Cam, trading as Pioneer Medical Acupuncture, is the data controller. The clinic is at The Practice Rooms, Wilkinson Street, Sheffield S10 2GB.

You can reach Daisy on 0114 491 0890 or at enquiries@pioneer-acupuncture.co.uk about anything on this page.

Pioneer Medical Acupuncture is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office, reference CSN7372067.

What is collected

  • •Your name, contact details and date of birth
  • •Your medical history, current medication, symptoms and anything else relevant to safe treatment
  • •Notes made during and after each appointment
  • •A record of appointments and payments
  • •Anything you choose to write in an enquiry message

Why it is collected, and the legal basis

Health information is special category data and is handled under Article 9(2)(h) of the UK GDPR, the provision of health care and treatment by a health professional who owes a duty of confidentiality. The related lawful basis under Article 6 is legitimate interests, namely providing you with safe treatment.

Contact details are used to arrange and confirm appointments, under Article 6(1)(b), performance of a contract with you.

Payment records are kept because HMRC requires it, under Article 6(1)(c), a legal obligation.

Who it is shared with

Nobody, routinely. Your records are not sold, not used for marketing and not passed to anyone for their own purposes.

Information is shared with your GP or another clinician only if you ask for it or agree to it. The two exceptions are a safeguarding concern about you or someone else, and a situation where the law requires disclosure. If either arises, Daisy will tell you unless doing so would create a risk.

How long it is kept

  • •Clinical notes: 10 years from your last appointment
  • •Financial records: 6 years, as required for tax
  • •Enquiries that do not lead to an appointment: 6 months, then deleted

How it is kept safe

Paper records are kept in a locked filing cabinet which only Daisy has access to, and which is not left in the treatment room between appointments. Records are never taken anywhere they could be read by anyone else.

Cookies and this website

This site sets no cookies at all. There is no analytics, no tracking and no embedded map.

The address links through to Google Maps, but only if you choose to follow the link, and it opens in a separate tab. Nothing is requested from Google when you simply read the page, apart from the typeface used for the text, which your browser fetches from Google Fonts. That means Google receives your IP address, though no cookie is set by it.

Your rights

You can ask to see the information held about you, to have mistakes corrected, to have information deleted, to restrict or object to how it is used, and to receive a copy in a portable form. Where you have given consent for something, you can withdraw it at any time.

The right to erasure is limited while clinical records are within their retention period, because keeping them is a professional obligation rather than a choice.

Ask by email or phone and you will get a response within one month.

If you are unhappy with how your information has been handled, say so directly first. If that does not resolve it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
